As Grammy-nominated artist Bob Moses’s creative director I designed a new visual identity for them, as well as directed all of their music videos for their "Desire" album campaign. During that process, I created a new style of animation, unlike anything in the history of animation, and then used it to direct this music video and interactive film. The project, which features renowned dance artist ZHU, won nine awards at the Webbys, Clios and SXSW.
At SXSW, it was nominated for best music video and won a grand prize in film design. At the Webby Awards, it was honored as one of the best music videos of the year, and it won for best art direction on the Internet. Plus, the video became Bob Moses's most viewed music video of all time. There are thousands of comments online analyzing the story and symbolism in the film. Some people even have tattoos of imagery from it. Send pics if you have one

To create this dark homage to desire for Bob Moses, I invented a new style of animation, as well as a new format for interactive experiences. We created a film that lets viewers see the positive side and dark side of desire: desire as a source of pleasure, or pain.
I made it by creating two music videos that when overlaid, form a third. The first is a story, animated in all blue, that shows one character's perspective in a relationship. The second is a story, animated in all red, that shows the other character's perspective.
Through the interlocking system we developed, the two animations line up beautifully when overlaid to show the couple together. But when a layer is removed, it reveals the secret ways the characters are experiencing desire differently in their relationship, often as a source of pain. In one scene a character's face looks normal at first, but when a layer's removed, tears appear. We wanted to show that desire can lead to downfall, which is why the couple is literally falling.
Through this, the video takes viewers on a journey of discovery to find the hidden love and darkness in their relationship. In the interactive version below, viewers can shift between the worlds of pleasure and pain with the click of a button. By jumping between the red and blue animations, a beating heart burst into flames, lipstick turns into a bullet and joy becomes despair. Interactive videos with multiple stories have been created before, but ours is the first where multiple stories can be viewed simultaneously through interlocking animations.

Through the interlocking system we developed, the two animations line up beautifully when overlaid, like a red and blue 3D anaglyph, to show the couple together. But when a layer is removed, it reveals the secret ways the characters are experiencing desire differently in their relationship, often as a source of pain. For example, in one scene a character's face looks normal at first, but when a layer's removed, it's clear tears have been there all along. We wanted to show that desire can lead to downfall, which is why the couple is falling throughout the film.

Watching this made me cry. It's such a clever way to show a universal human experience as the cycle continues
@Cloudsaboveuscrying
I love how at the ending everything starts again, they fall from the sky again.. they're trapped in a never ending loop, and the suffering just keeps on going. What a masterpiece!
@Aziz-fk4qb
The music is insane the video is insane what a masterpiece.
@Lolakoha7431

I not only directed the music video above for Bob Moses’s song Desire, I was also their creative director during the release of their album Desire. I developed a new visual identity for them and working within that framework, created their most viewed music video of all time.
Before Bob Moses was on the radio, they were DJing in warehouses. They created this album with that culture in mind — a dance album about the perils of flying too close to the sun. So for this roll-out campaign, I designed a world that used street art and warehouse imagery to illustrate how desire can lead to downfall.
In one music video, I brought street art to life through stop motion animation. In another, I filmed Bob Moses performing on top of an abandoned radiowave tower, famous for its graffiti. I created hundreds of other visuals within this world too, some of which you can see below.
